Weekly Shonen Jump magazine may have made a premature error when it announced the results of the 9th official character popularity vote for “My Hero Academia. After receiving reports of errors and miscalculations, the magazine announced an official recount of the votes.
As noted on the official X (formerly Twitter) account for “My Hero Academia,” Weekly Shonen Jump Vol. 19, No. 2024, announced the results of the character popularity poll on Monday, April 8. Of the 30 characters listed, Katsuragi Bakugou took first place with over 23,000 votes; second place went to Midoriya Izuhisa with over 18,000 votes; and third place went to Todoroki Shoto with over 13,000 votes. If these results look familiar,
that’s because the three characters have consistently ranked in the top three since the first official popularity poll was conducted in 2015. With the exception of Deku’s first-place finish in the first year, Bakunin has won the popularity contest for eight consecutive years.
